A New Star Shines Brightly At Stamford Bridge

|

What a breath of fresh air!

Last night Stamford Bridge witnessed an epic FA Cup 5th round tie as Chelsea went head-to-head with a Liverpool side that many are describing as, currently, the best in the world.

Many expected Liverpool to bounce back in emphatic style after being routed by Watford, at the weekend, their first Premier League defeat of the season.

But Chelsea had other plans, after being second best for the opening eight minutes, the Blues slowly got into the game and it was to be one of those nights, courtesy of goals from Willian and Barkley that sent the home support home bouncing.

However, amidst the excitement of turning Liverpool over, the performance of one man, Billy Gilmour, was the talk of those queuing for the tube.

Gilmour, just 18-years-of-age, was given the chance to shine by Frank Lampard and grabbed it with both hands doing enough to grab the man-of-the-match award and lay the foundations for a glittering Chelsea career.

Calm on the ball, not wasting a single pass and being prepared to carry the ball forward with vigour, the young Scot had Stamford Bridge buzzing.

After the game, with a broad smile on his face, Frank Lampard had this to say to The BBC about the youngsters’ performance,

“What an incredible performance for a young player. He was a calm head in that first five or 10 minutes. He’s a throwback of a midfielder.

“Can you put your foot in? Yes. Can you make angles to play the passes? Yes. He’s only slight in stature but he’s huge in personality. He deserves people to talk about him after a performance like that.”

He certainly does and with Jorginho suspended and Kovacic having picked up a knock, could we be seeing the talented Billy Gilmour in the starting eleven for the fixture, against Everton, this weekend?

I certainly hope so.

Chelsea v Everton?

Chelsea to Win!

Everton to Win!

A Draw!
