Last night, against Tottenham Hotspur, at Wembley, Chelsea had the majority of the game but, once again, struggled to break down an opposing defence.

Our lack of a world-class striker, something we’ve not had since Diego Costa returned to La Liga, continues to cost us dearly.

With the January transfer window now open, Chelsea, if they want to ensure they remain in the hunt for silverware this season, have to address the situation.

Several names have been mentioned, Higuain, Cavani and Wilson to name but three.

However, today, courtesy of the tabloid news source, the Mirror is a piece of speculation that has grabbed my attention and I hope will grab yours.

Our referenced source is reporting that our owner, Roman Abramovich, has ear-marked exactly who he wants Chelsea to sign.

At the top of our owners wish-list is the insinuation that the Argentine striker, currently on the books of Inter Milan, Mauro Icardi is the player Abramovich wants.

The 25-year-old is, no doubt, a world-class striker and to tempt Inter Milan to sell, Chelsea may have to cough up a fee of at least £100 million.

Let’s hope it is a deal that is based on solid foundations and can be completed.

  • Maybe logic will prevail at last in Chelsea and will stop buying players on a Sunday market. There are far too many players that need to leave, sold or give them away as they destroy our Chelsea day after day.
The fault is within the administration and is time for the club to wake up otherwise they will become extinct.
Why on earth they can’t learn from their mistakes year after year? Who wants pensioners as players?

  • Re-sign back Diego Costa or sign the prolific striker from Inter Milan Icardi..there is the way to solve problem on Chelsea front right now!!!

  • yes, its high time we needed to this problem. since Diagonal left nothing really tangible have occurred.Icardi can be a lasting solution looking at his age & ability. Higuain noways & is aged.

  • please all we need is prolific striker like mariuo icardi so fresh and young not old man like gonzalo higuain please

  • We need him now please give us icardi or bring back diego costa say no to higuain and benzema and others thanks chelsea for life either we lose or win always blue

  • have they finally started to take the right decisions?!
seems spending an enormous amount of money is inevitable, if one needs to stay at the top; so better earlier than later. “band aid” patching type of spending is practically wasting money. the team apparently needs to be rebuilt and adding quality is the only way of keeping the quality we already have.
pity conte had none of this.
