At his pre-match press conference, ahead of the FA Cup 3rd round tie against Peterborough United, Antonio Conte commented that he wasn`t looking to sign a central defender this January transfer window.

However, the Italian gave no indication that he was set to bring back to Chelsea Football Club a versatile defender-cum-midfielder who has started to make a real impression whilst out on loan.

The player in question is none other than our 21-year-old Dutchman Nathan Ake.

Reports covered by the BBC News suggest that Chelsea are set to recall the player from his loan spell at AFC Bournemouth with the manager of the south-coast side, Eddie Howe, quoted as having remarked about the situation,

‘It would be a huge blow to us as he’s done so well. It is easier said than done to say we are going to go and recruit a player of a similar stature to Nathan.’

‘I am not sure there are too many out there, hence why Chelsea would recall him.”

Since Ake moved to Bournemouth on loan, after initially failing to secure much first team football, the player has now made 12 appearances for the club netting 3 times.

We`ll keep an eye out for official confirmation that the player returned to Stamford Bridge.
