Although, in the first round of international matches, it was Reuben Loftus-Cheek who generated the most column inches, in the media, after his man-of-the-match display on his full debut for the senior side, another Chelsea youngster deserves a mention as well.

On Friday, made his debut for Wales, in their 2-0 defeat at the hands of France.

But in doing so, at the tender age of 17 years and just 58 days, Ampadu became the youngest ever Chelsea player to win a full senior cap.

The youngster, who made his full Chelsea debut in the League Cup fixture against Everton recently, held his own against his illustrious opponents.

However, although Ampadu played in a midfield role in both the aforementioned games, the Welsh manager, Chris Coleman has implied that the youngster could evolve into a central defender, with Coleman remarking,

‘He’s capable of playing both positions.

‘His frame, athleticism, and understanding of the game, he’s a great communicator for someone so young. So at the moment it’s a tough one to call.

‘He could end up playing holding midfielder or as a centre-back.

‘Your modern-day centre-backs start play and you need to be confident in possession. He’s a good communicator and a good all-round player.’

The career of the teenager appears to be progressing perfectly since Chelsea acquired his services from Exeter City, long may it continue.
