As we wend our way to Christmas, we`re carrying on our quest to find Chelsea`s best starting XI according to the Vital Chelsea readership.

Having sorted out the defence and the centre of midfield, we turned our attention to the two wingback positions that Antonio Conte favours. We gave four names to choose from,

⦁ Kenedy
⦁ Marcos Alonso
⦁ Victor Moses
⦁ Davide Zappacosta

Of all the initial polls we`ve done for each position so far, the vote in this one was the closest. However, there has to be a winner, and the first wingback joining the team is Marcos Alonso, with 40% of the votes cast. Alonso is fast becoming an automatic pick for Conte, for his dead ball skills alone. It was his free kick that secured last weekends win against Southampton.

In second place, and it`s a bit of a surprise, is Davide Zappacosta who accumulated 32% of the votes. Joining Chelsea in the summer, the Italian is slowly getting up to speed with the Premier League, and his confidence is growing by the game.

Gaining third place and one of the first pick incumbents currently, is Victor Moses with 23%. The Nigerian has really grown into the wingback role under Conte, but competition is good for any player and with Zappacosta snapping at his heels, he needs to keep pushing to improve.

Last of the four this time round is one of the ‘kids`, Kenedy who grabbed 5%. The Brazilian youngster has seen game time with Conte in charge, most notably in the League (Carabao) Cup. He`s performed well, but he still has plenty of room for improvement. Recently, there has been talk of him moving to Newcastle on loan in January. Maybe Chelsea`s hierarchy need to cover Alonso`s position first.

We’ll carry on with this series of polls after the weekends excitement. For now our front page poll asks our usual pre match question. Who do you think will win? As we always say, please vote wisely.
