Andreas Christensen has been added to Chelsea`s first team for next season and been given a squad number of 27. London`s Evening Standard are reporting that, following two years in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach, the Danish international feels he`s ready to take on the challenge of Premier League football

“I have come back to Chelsea a better player than the one that left two years ago. I played about 80 games in two seasons and I have a lot more experience. I have a bit more toughness, more mental than physical. The physical side of things is something I still have to build on.

It will be good if Antonio Conte shows some faith and gives him a chance to show what he can do in a Chelsea shirt.

You could look on and wonder why Nathan Ake was allowed to leave and yet Christensen stays, maybe with the new stadium on the horizon, Ake was simply seen as a larger source of income, having been sold to Bournemouth for £20m.

Christensen spoke about the much maligned academy at Chelsea, he was asked if the loan system adopted by the club actually helps the ‘kids`

“I`d like to think so. Some people say that they just abandon you, that they don`t keep an eye on you, but that is definitely not true. I got all the help I needed.

Let`s hope Andreas can buck the traditional Chelsea ‘kid` trend and become a first team regular.
