Another Star Of That Memorable Night In Munich Is Set For A Return To English Football

|

Yesterday, we reported how one of the heroes of our finest hour, the Champions League triumph in the Allianz Arena back in May 2012, had made a surprise return to English football.

Our article, Click Here covered the signing of Ashley Cole by Frank Lampard with the 38-year-old brought in to bolster Derby’s promotion push.

By some strange coincidence, another member of the starting eleven that night, John Obi Mikel, has also opted to return to our shores.

Mikel, who was, in my opinion, the unsung hero on that marvellous night in Bavaria, is, according to the BBC, on the verge of joining the promotion-chasing Championship side, Middlesbrough.

The Nigerian international is a free agent after a spell in the Chinese Super League, with Tianjin Teda, came to an end last month.

Mikel made 249 appearances for Chelsea and it’ll be interesting, if personal terms can be agreed with Middlesbrough, to see how the defensive midfielder fares back in English football.

Here at Vital Chelsea, we’ll keep a watchful eye open for any developments and, if deemed necessary, report back.
