Another Youngster Bids Farewell To Chelsea And Heads For Pastures New

|

The statistics relating to the number of youngsters that enjoy success in the Chelsea youth set-up but fail to bridge the huge chasm between that level of football and playing for the first team saw an increase yesterday.

The news was released, as covered by the BBC that Coventry City had signed Fankaty Dabo.

Dabo, to those who have followed the youth team throughout the years, will be a familiar name.

However, at 23-years-of-age, any ambitions of carving out a career in the first team at Stamford Bridge, have ended.

Sent out on loan to the Dutch club, Sparta Rotterdam, Dabo was released by the club.

As a result, League One club Coventry City, have signed the right-back on a 3-year deal.

Naturally, his new club are thrilled to have signed the player with their boss, the former Manchester United striker Mark Robins, enthusing on the official Coventry site, Click Here:

“He is a defender with a lot of the qualities which we need in the team as we push on next season and will be a great addition to the squad.”

Here at Vital Chelsea, we can only wish Fankaty every success at his new club and we wish him well.

We know not every one of those who come through our youth system will bridge that previously mentioned chasm, but it would certainly be good to see the figure relating to those who do increase.
