Sunday 9th April was expected to be one of the pivotal moments of the season. Sadly, it didn?t quite turn out right.

After ten men Chelsea had seen off the challenge of West Ham United with a fine display we hoped that the Arsenal could perhaps do us a small favour at Old Trafford. Perhaps we should have known better.

Perhaps the writing was on the wall the moment it was announced Thierry Henry was to be rested and was only a substitute. Quite why remains a mystery. I wonder if he?ll be rested for the trip to Fratton Park. If so whatever happened to the ?field your strongest team at all times? ethic from those in charge at Soho Square?

Even so, our hopes were briefly raised by a spirited first twenty-minute showing from the visitors that gave us some hope. Sadly, a good goal by Rooney soon reminded us that you can?t rely on Arsenal for much in the way of favours.

After that it wasn?t even remotely on the cards that Arsenal would get back in the game. So, the gap remains at seven points whereas an Arsenal victory would have made it possible for us to win the title this Easter, a draw may have prolonged it a little longer.

Nevertheless it is still ours to throw away rather than United’s to win!
