At Last, Chelsea Have Somebody Who Can Bridge That Huge Gap

|

Last night, over in Dublin, in the Intercontinental Cup, Chelsea looked to be cruising to victory against Arsenal, leading 1-0, courtesy of an early goal from Antonio Rudiger, as the game entered the last minute.

But, in a cruel twist of fate, Arsenal equalised with just 17 seconds left and then went on to win the resulting penalty shoot-out 6-5, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek being the unfortunate soul to miss from the spot.

However, ahead of the start of the new season, it’s about the performances as opposed to the result and last night, at the Aviva Stadium, our young teenage forward, Callum Hudson-Odoi, showed that he is definitely a star of the future.

With Chelsea dominating the first-half, Hudson-Odoi created numerous chances, one of which saw Cesc Fabregas force a save that resulted in the ensuing corner being headed home by Rudiger.

Hudson-Odoi was also the player who, bursting into the penalty area, forced Hector Bellerin into conceding a penalty, unfortunately, Alvaro Morata saw his spot-kick saved by Petr Cech.

After the game, when pushed on the future of the youngster, Maurizio Sarri had this to say to the media,

“He will be a very, very strong player.

“Will he be in the first team squad? I think so. He will be staying with us for all the season.”

Hold your breath folks, but I reckon we could finally have unearthed somebody who can make that huge leap from promising youngster to being a regular in the first-team squad. Hudson-Odoi may not make that jump this season, but give the lad another twelve months and the world could well be his oyster.
