Back in the summer, when Chelsea were looking for a decent back-up keeper to replace Petr Cech, after our legend had been sold to Arsenal, people questioned whether Asmir Begovic, who joined us from Stoke City, would be content to be a back-up.

In the prime of his career the highly rated Bosnian had, during his time at the Britannia Stadium carved out a reputation as one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

On joining Begovic, quite naturally, made all the right noises about fighting Thibaut Courtois for the spot between the posts.

An injury to Courtois, which saw the Belgian keeper side-lined for a considerable period, enabled Begovic to get the first team action he craved, with the Bosnian making twenty appearances.

But since Courtois return to full fitness, Begovic has been sat on the bench twiddling his thumbs.

Since Guus Hiddink took over, Begovic has been restricted to just one appearance, against Scunthorpe United in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and it`s perhaps not too much of a surprise to rea din the tabloid press this morning, in particular The Sun, Begovic is looking to leave come the opening of the summer transfer window.

With Chelsea having paid £8 million for the keeper, last summer, it`ll be interesting t see if, firstly Chelsea agree to Begovic`s request to leave and, secondly, if we can recoup all of the fee paid to Stoke for his services.
