In making sure he got his head to the ball, against Barcelona, Gary Cahill not only collected another Chelsea goal but, once again, he shed blood for the blue cause.

Cahill appeared to suffer a direct blow to the nose which caused the claret to run freely. The centre-back was immediately taken off to be treated and to have the damaged assessed.

However, with the Community Shield coming up this Sunday, with the FA Cup winners Arsenal playing us, the champions, it looks very much as if Cahill will take up his regular position at the heart of the defence alongside John Terry.

Speaking immediately after the 2-2 draw against Barcelona had been settled by penalties and with his remarks appearing in The Sun, Jose Mourinho commented about his centre-back,

“Cahill has a chance of a broken nose, maybe yes, maybe no.

“If no, perfect, if yes, we will make a mask to be ready for Sunday.”

Now that`s the spirit, patch them up and send them back out there!
