As we are all aware, the 2-1 home win against Everton, on Sunday afternoon, was enough to give us third place.
You`re probably also aware that third place grants you automatic qualification to the Champions League group stages, unlike fourth place whereby you could be handed a do-or-die qualifying tie against opposition that might just surprise you.
Petr Cech, who produced some stunning saves on Sunday, to prevent Everton snatching a point, has given his thoughts on the subject, and in particular the fact that third place doesn`t mean a ‘broken` star tot the season, or as Petr puts it,
“Now everybody will have enough rest and we can start the season fresh.”
“This is a big help because otherwise you have to change the pre-season and juggle who will come and on what date.”
“If you have a bad summer you can start the season chasing.”
So that`ll be a nice pre-season tour, a few friendly fixtures and no daunting Champions League qualification fixture to get in the way – sounds sound to me!
