Chelsea All But Ease Into The Quarter-Finals Of The Europa League With An Emphatic Performance

|

Last night, at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea entertained Dynamo Kiev in a Europa League two-legged tie.

For the winners of the two-legged tie, a place in the quarter-finals of the competition awaits, a step nearer to a place in the final, in Baku, in May.

As it turned out it was a very comfortable night for a much-changed Chelsea side who romped to a 3-0 victory making the second leg a formality unless Chelsea, as they have done in the past against Bournemouth and Manchester City, produce a horror show.

However, although Maurizio Sarri, ahead of the game, spoke about the heavy fixture schedule tiring out his players, his much-changed squad didn’t, much to our amazement, include starting places for either Callum Hudson-Odoi or Ruben Loftus-Cheek, perhaps Sarri isn’t keen on those with double-barrelled surnames!

Chelsea could have wrapped the tie up in the first half but for some wayward finishing from Pedro, however, the Blues did have the comfort of a 1-0 lead, at half-time, courtesy of a decent goal from the Spaniard.

Chelsea’s domination of the game continued in the second half and an exquisite free-kick, from Willian, gave the team a comfortable two-goal cushion.

But, perhaps, the icing on the cake came with the introduction of Callum Hudson-Odoi who scored a sublime third goal to allow Chelsea to take a three-goal lead to Kiev next Thursday, with the tie all but in the bag.
