Chelsea Appoint Manager Number 13 Of The Abramovich Era

|

With the uncertainty relating to Antonio Conte’s future ended by his axing on Thursday, Chelsea haven’t wasted much time in appointing his successor.

Just as the media predicted, Maurizio Sarri becomes the 13th manager of the Roman Abramovich era, whilst also becoming the 6th Italian to hold the post.

Sarri, who was in charge of Napoli last season as they pushed Juventus all the way for the Serie A title, has signed a three-year deal with Chelsea.

Talking about taking on the role and as quoted by the BBC, Sarri has remarked,

“It is an exciting new period in my career.

“I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.”

Although Sarri, during his managerial career, has failed to lift a major trophy, he arrives with a reputation as somebody who likes his side to play attacking football, something proven by the fact that whilst in charge of Napoli his side scored 251 league goals, more than any other side in Serie A in the same period.

Also, continuing on the theme, his Napoli side, in 2016 / 2017, scored 94 goals the highest number scored in a Serie A season this century.

Sarri has some key decisions to make over the coming few days.

He needs to analyse the players he has inherited and has to decide who can go and who must stay.

But time isn’t on his side, as next Wednesday the squad departs for Australia for a pre-season game against Perth Glory.

Although many of the Chelsea support will rue the departure of Antonio Conte, it is imperative that the support gives 59-year-old Sarri every opportunity to make a success of his role.

Hopefully, next season, Sarri will be holding aloft that first piece of major silverware of his managerial career.
