Chelsea Got Exactly What They Deserved Against Liverpool

|

I purposely left it until this morning before I commented on what we witnessed against Liverpool.

To say the performance disappointed, me is an understatement.

I would go so far as to say it was awful!

I have followed Chelsea through thick and thin and I do not think I have ever seen a performance that was so negative.

It was almost as if Chelsea were scared to have a go at a Liverpool side who, the previous week, against Leeds United had looked fragile at the back.

There was no passion on display and our sole intention appeared to be defend in numbers.

Indeed, we sat so deep we were almost in the Matthew Harding Stand lower tier at times in the first half.

Of course, our cause was not helped when we were reduced to 10-men and then Kepa made his obligatory horrific error he has a penchant to make at least once a game.

But it was awful.

The manner in which it seemed mandatory for the keeper to invite two defenders into his area to start a move baffled me, it left us allowing Liverpool to press us deep in our own half.

Now we could look at the Jorginho penalty miss as a chance to get back into the game but Liverpool, at that stage, were coasting and would only have gone through the gears to open up a two-goal lead again.

We may point to several of our new signings not being available, but we approached the game with the wrong mindset.

I would rather we had gone at Liverpool all guns blazing and lost 5-3, at least we would have put on a show!

This is also my line of thought about the match. While start the match against a team that had shown defensive fragilities against a newly promoted side?
It’s just a pity. Our two matches this season has been nothing to write home about

Lampard is the problem of chelseafc.

Unfortunately it will be difficult to criticize Lampard because he is a favourite of many chelsea fans. But to be honesty, Chelsea have now a lot of very promising young players who require very good mentoring, however, Frank is nowhere near a good manager for these young players who are likely to start being frustrated. As fans we have to live with this kind of situation only blaming players ignoring major problem. There is so far to zeal and no purpose I have seen from the team except to play because the game is the fixture.

By the way Merlin, it is good of you to keep this forum running at least it allows us to somehow give our opinion, whether popular or unpopular in the eyes of many! Keep it up.

As for me I think we were not brave enough. Both the players and coaches. We gave them far too much respect when we were in possession and we didn’t put our foot into tackles when we didn’t have the ball. The coach can make excuses of not having the full team to select from but brilliant managers use their tactical abilities to grind results from whoever is available for selection. Are we saying we can’t play our football until certain players resume duty? Like @Merlin rightly said, we would take a 5-3 defeat in an entertaining game any day. Had we gone 3 at the back and lost by 5 and still score 4 goals ourselves, every pundit in town would be singing Lampard’s praises right now for playing football the right way.

How nobody saw fit for Mount to continue his development on loan at another premier league club is beyond me. The boy lad was useful when our transfer ban was on but to think he deserves to be in this team and getting a starting place is ridiculous. What is is with the over rating of young English players? We are even hindering his progress by playing him out of position just so he can get a start. Mount could be the downfall of Lamps if he keep selecting him ahead of other deserving players. What does Mount offer the team aside his relentless running? We have a natural winger CHO and we are persisting with Mount who can’t even dribble to save his life? I know CHO can frustrate at times but we all know how good he can be when given time to rediscover his form. Have we forgotten how Bayern were knocking on our doors to take him from us?

@Admin you guys don’t know how important this forum is to us blues supporters. This site is where we can release all our pre-match nerves, our frustrations from a bad game and ultimately, express our happiness after a sweet victory. Please keep it running like forever and you might be saving someone’s life. We used to have great minds here whose opinions we are always eager to read before and after a game. Not the opinions of those paid pundits who are obsessed with singing the praises of Livarpool on every media outlet. Kudos and keep it up.

Thanks for the praise, I’ve kept it going for close to eighteen years now and I’ve no plans to give it up 🙂

Can’t agree more to every word in this article. Too much respect for liverpool. Chelsea players not making themselves available for the ball. Mount and Jorginho should be squad players unless they up their game. As for Lampard, he doesn’t know what he is doing. His tactics are so mediocre, to say the least.

Lampard is d obvious problem….. Bias selections to favor english players like mount, barkly or lofuloftuss cheek….plus playing some ppl outa position….. He also looks not sound in techniqies @ the coachingg level like pep or guardiola….. I think he should leave cos we cnt spend dis much n look awful with our games already

I laugh when people make analysis especially after a match.. Ask the same people to choose the right formation and tactics, before the game, they will fail 99%.

Gary Neville will sit before the camera and talk trash, but he was sacked after about how many months in Valencia.

This is not easy… Let these pundits go and take a job in championship, let’s see how it goes….

Lampard got his tactics right, circumstances changed it… Once the red came, one outcome is expected… A Liverpool win.

Lampard has went toe to toe with Liverpool on 4 occasions last season, we drew one in 90 mins of Super cup… Lost 2 in Epl… Won one in FA cup when they rested firmino and Salah and few others in the middle. Yet outside the FA cup we have conceded one goal in each of the 3 matches in the first half…. Except this match this season… We played out a 0-0 in the first half, the red came in the dying mins of the first half. Which shows the tactics was working.

Again, it’s safe to say Liverpool are always fitter than every team in the Epl… (Duracell batteries)

They were fitter as always, Chelsea are not fit, most teams are not, we were not sharp and crisp which is expected in this period….

So blaming the manager is just a sign of panic that came from losing a match….

Lampard did well… Again we have defenders that can’t read the game or offensive play of opposing team… Had Chelsea read that game, they would have stopped the first goal from Liverpool.

I completely agree with you Wizzy Zube. Especially the part where you pointed out the game being 0-0 up until half time. The red card is what derailed Lampard’s game plan. Otherwise we kept the most dangerous attack( in Firming, Mané, Salah)in the league at bay for whole of the first half. I wonder how many teams in this league can do that, especially when they’re so fresh.

  • Solid7 says:

Wow, the foreign experts, who have never set foot into an English stadium, are in full bloom.

  • Solid7 says:

You lot criticising some of the players that you are criticising, will eat crow before this squad hits full throttle. I’m actually appalled at how little some of you engage your brains. Red card changed everything. Liverpool was using a very high tempo pressing game, which takes the absolute piss out of even the fittest squad. They didn’t do that with Leeds. The Leeds tactics weren’t ever gonna work in this match. Had we kept 11 men on the pitch, there were fresh legs waiting in the wings, and I’ve no doubt that we’d have had some runners on the pitch to try to apply the pressure in the second half. But that’s just not how it worked out. Young Christensen will pay a heavy price for that kind of error, but the season will go on. A 6-0 victory, even against a lower tier club, should see a nice bounce in the league. Hope the rest of you all put down the controller, and start viewing the game with human eyes someday.

  • Solid7 says:

Liverpool could not have sustained that style of play for 90 minutes. I swear some of you act like you’ve never watched or played football before.
