Chelsea Have a Huge Decision To Make In The Next Week Or So

|

There’s a week until the summer transfer window, in the Premier League, slams shut.

Chelsea have, it would seem, a difficult decision to make.

Do they sell Thibaut Courtois or do they make the 26-year-old Belgian goalkeeper see out the last year of his contract?

If they do they will see the goalkeeper walk away, next May, as a free agent.

Today, the news source, the Daily Mail, suggests that, unless Chelsea can recruit a replacement for Courtois before the transfer window slams shut, they will take the second option expressed above.

Courtois, desperate to return to Spain, probably with Real Madrid, is keen to move so he can be reunited with his children, who reside in the Spanish capital.

However, our source goes on to suggest that when it comes to recruiting a replacement goalkeeper, Chelsea are reluctant to spend more than £20 million.

Quite why remains a mystery to us here at Vital Chelsea.

Having a reliable goalkeeper between the sticks is essential, it can often make the difference between a team being successful and a team not winning silverware.

Idle for long periods of the game, classy goalkeepers are able to produce that one moment of magic to deny the opposition.

But, if Chelsea are reluctant to spend more than £20 million on a replacement for Courtois, our referenced source, once again, suggests that Joe Hart, currently on the books of Manchester City, could be a surprise recruit.

Another area of concern is that whilst the summer transfer window, in this country, slams shut on 9 August, it remains open until the end of the month on the continent.

Chelsea could still be faced with a situation whereby Courtois could force a move leaving Chelsea with no replacement unless an out-of-contract keeper can be found.

But, a worst-case scenario, in our view, would see Chelsea have to decide between Hart, Robert Green and Willy Caballero as the first-choice for the coming season, not very inspiring is it?

However, in the grand scheme of things, how do you see the green jersey situation panning out between now and the end of the month?
