Chelsea Hero From That Marvellous Night In 2012 Set For A Return To English Football

|

Back in 2012, on a glorious night in Munich, a group of Chelsea players cemented themselves as legends when they defied the odds to win the Champions League, against Bayern Munich, in their own back yard.

It is a night that will forever remain fresh in our memories.

Some of those that wore the familiar blue of Chelsea that night, are still active in the game, although none still wear our shirt.

But one player, who helped win what was perceived as the ‘Holy Grail’ that night, John Mikel Obi, is set for a return to English football.

Mikel, now 33-years-of-age, was an unsung hero on that night in the Allianz Arena, he didn’t do anything spectacular, he didn’t take one of the nerve-racking penalties that decided the final, he simply kept things simple and helped nullify the Bayern threat.

According to The BBC, Mikel, now a free agent, is set to sign a one-year deal with the Championship side, Stoke City.

If our paths, next season, should cross, I’m sure Mikel will be given the ovation he deserves, after all, he played 249 times for our club and helped win not only the Champions League but TWO Premier League’s THREE FA Cups and ONE League Cup, no man feat.
