Lurking in the media yesterday was one of those pieces of transfer speculation that gets you all excited and then leaves you feeling perplexed.

The good folk of the red-top publication, the Daily Star, were championing the suggestion that Chelsea Football Club had already identified their main transfer target for the summer of 2018.

Our source was of the opinion that Chelsea were looking to break their transfer record by signing the Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez, with a figure of £71 million being mentioned.

The 22-year-old has become one of the hottest properties in European football with some outstanding displays for his club.

However, whilst the above might get you all excited, you are then brought back down to earth when the referenced source goes on to confirm that the player only signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid back in the summer and that it has a release clause in it of a huge £134 million.

Throw into the mix the fact that Atletico Madrid have no intentions of selling and you can see just why the whole piece of speculation douses you in that perplexed feeling!

  • Better don’t with Athletico on player purchases again, we’ve been burnt with Aguero, Costa, Luis and nearly Courtois. Barca seems a better spanish club to deal with and maybe real madrid
