The acquisition of Thiago Silva, back in the summer transfer window, has proven to be a shrewd move.
The veteran Brazilian defender has tightened up the fragile defence and his class has rubbed off on those around him.
However, here at Vital Chelsea, we are realistic enough to accept Thiago is only a short-term solution.
Chelsea still need to bring to the club a long-term partner for Kurt Zouma at the heart of the defence.
But there is an indication that such a move has already begun with The Daily Mail championing the inference that Chelsea are ready to join the race to sign the French defender Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano, 22-years-of-age, is currently on the books of RB Leipzig and is also, according to our referenced source, said to be interesting Manchester United and Liverpool.
Another article, this time in the Manchester Evening News carries the inference that RB Leipzig will not prevent the player from leaving as they continue to exercise their club policy of selling their best players, presumably to keep the club afloat.
Clearly, Chelsea will have to be very persuasive to seal this deal, but fingers crossed it might just happen.
Fulham v Chelsea?
Fulham to Win!
