Chelsea Ladies Close In On WSL1 Title and a Unique Double

|

After winning the Women’s FA Cup Final, on Saturday, beating Arsenal, the Chelsea Ladies are on course to win the Women’s Super League One and complete a unique double.

Results, in recent times, have contrived to see Emma Hayes’ side go three points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Manchester City.

To wrap up the title, Chelsea need to take seven points from the last nine available.

The three games left being against Sunderland (h) Bristol City (a) and Liverpool (a).

The latest fixture saw the Chelsea Ladies beat Birmingham City in a game that was settled by an injury-time winner.

Fran Kirby, who is having an excellent season, opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 19th minute with a fine strike.

But, just past the hour mark, Birmingham City equalised when Hayley Ladd scored with a half-volley.

Chelsea desperately tried to retake the lead but Kirby, Cuthbert and Mjelde were all foiled by excellent saves from their keeper, Ann-Katrin Berger.

Just as it looked as if the game would finish 1-1, up popped Erin Cuthbert, in the first minute of stoppage time, to snatch a dramatic winner.

The ladies are on a roll, let’s hope they can keep it going to win the title.
