Chelsea`s search for a centre-back this summer has already seen several names mentioned as possible recruits.

This morning however, there is a new name in the frame.

According to the popular tabloid publication, Daily Star, Chelsea could be set to join the race for the highly-rated Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson

Gibson, 24-years-of-age, was a shining light in a Middlesbrough season that saw the club relegated and lose their Premier League status.

Although Middlesbrough won`t want to lose their young defender, with a World Cup coming up Gibson will be aware that there are places up for grabs but that the Premier League is the place he needs to be playing in.

However, according to our referenced source, we`re not the only Premier League club interested in the player with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Leicester City, Southampton and Stoke City also mentioned.

As for a transfer fee, the sum of £25 million is being quoted which seems very reasonable for a home-grown player and a centre-back that performed admirably in a poor side.

Does the possible signing of Ben Gibson get a thumbs up or a thumbs down from you?
