Chelsea Linked With The Acquisition Of A Central Defender

|

While it has been great to see Chelsea strengthen their attacking options for next season and continue to be linked with players of a similar ilk, it has been clear, in recent weeks, the defence is an area that requires attention.

To be considered, next season, as potential title candidates, we cannot continue to operate with a defence that is amongst the leakiest in the Premier League.

To that effect I expect the club, this summer, to be linked with a plethora of big-name defenders.

It appears that the speculation has already started but, for some, with the unlikeliest of links.

According to The Sun Chelsea are showing an interest in signing the out-of-favour Manchester City centre-back, John Stones.

26-year-old Stones is, it is fair to say, a cultured defender but also one who is prone to making errors.

However, Chelsea are not the only club said to be interested in hoping Stones can resurrect this career with them with Arsenal, Newcastle United and his former club, Everton, all said to be interested.

Is Stones the answer to our defensive woes?

I fear not!

But what are your views on this piece of transfer speculation?

John Stones To Chelsea?

Yes Please!

No Thanks!

Stones only makes sense in a 3 at the back. In a sense, Zouma and Rudiger both lack a little confidence with ball at feet. Tomori, too. Stones in the middle of a 3 might play the David Luiz role, being the guy to initiate the offense from the back. He would need to get much tougher, though. But putting him in the middle of a 3 would allow Toni and Kurt to focus on defense. Kind of like what Christensen brings to the table.

We need top defenders… We should stop signing all these average players cos they are cheap..
