Back in the summer, when it was decided that Andreas Christensen would not be sent out on loan, for a third season, we had our hopes that the Danish youngster could establish himself in the squad.

We never, in our wildest dreams, thought that, as we approach the halfway stage of the season, the 21-year-old has become a mainstay in Antonio Conte`s defence.

Since making his introduction, Christensen has gone on to make 16 starts in all competitions, compared to just 2 earlier in his career.

Christensen has grabbed his chance with both hands and looks set to be an established member of the starting eleven for several years to come.

As a consequence of his performance and although Christensen has a contract that ties hum to Chelsea until 2020, the local media vehicle, the Evening Standard are reporting that the club are preparing to open talks with the Dane over a new contract, one that will reward the player for his performances in the first-team whilst also tying him to the club for a longer period of time.

Here at Vital Chelsea we`d call it a just reward, how about you?
