Chelsea are reportedly near to making their 4th signing of what has been a fractious transfer window so far. It`s not one of the names that have been constantly cited throughout the summer.

Safe to say it`s not a marquee signing either, no disrespect. The name in the frame is Portugal international Cedric Soares. Chelsea see the full back as being able to give Victor Moses some competition at wing back. The Mirror run with the story and say the transfer fee will be in the region of £15m should the deal proceed. Antonio Conte has spent the summer looking at defensive reinforcements, which has so far just seen Antonio Rudiger signed.

The possibility of Chelsea signing Cedric`s teammate, Virgil Van Dijk is still ongoing after the centre back handed in a transfer request last week. With Southampton keen to quit being Liverpool`s feeder club following the Reds heavy handed attempt to sign Van Dijk earlier in the window, Chelsea must still be in with a shout at both.Chelsea`s relationship in transfer terms ought to be OK, with Oriel Romeu and Ryan Bertrand both joining the south coast side in recent years.

With just 16 days of the window remaining, some of these stories have got to move from being, just that, stories, to actual signings, that see the shirt being held up. Watch this space.
