Chelsea – Match Day Moments – Liverpool (h)

|

As far as first home games of the season go, they do not come bigger than entertaining the current Premier League champions, in this instance Liverpool.

Sadly, the government COVID-19 pandemic rules mean that the game will be played behind-closed-doors.

Nevertheless, those with Sky Sports or with a dodgy stream, something we are not allowed to promote, will be able to view the action live.

It should be a pulsating affair with the growing rivalry between Frank Lampard and Jurgen Klopp adding a little extra spice.

As used to be the norm, we are running our feature whereby we invite your participation.

Feel free to air your views, in our comment facility, on anything related to the game, including, but not limited to, the following:

1 – The build-up to the big game.

2 – The starting eleven selected by Frank Lampard.

3 – The action as it happens at Stamford Bridge.

4 – Your thoughts in the immediate aftermath of the final whistle sounding.

Let us hope we are all smiles once that final whistle sounds.

I feel Liverpool with a settled side, and we integrating new players Plus arguably our best player Pulisic out for the match, we are the underdogs. But this is football, anything can happen. and Pool weren’t particularly good defensively in their first outing. So fingers crossed. Up the Chels !

@Merlin, are we really going to have our forum back this season? We love this site but the inconstitencies in your publications is pushing us out. Agree, argue, dialogue and celebrate together with fellow blues supporters is why we are all here. All you need is to give us an avenue for that

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

If I were Frank, I would’ve started Tammy up front and Timo on the flank to cause Trent Alexander real problems as he is susceptible defensively. But what do I know?

  • ZeeNut says:

Kante at the end of a great move does not shoot unfortunately

  • ZeeNut says:

Now Timo Werner halts after a great swift move

  • ZeeNut says:

Christensen Red Card … Foolish foul when Kepa might have got to the ball first

  • ZeeNut says:

Stupidity personified …even if Mane had hot there first, we would still have been 11 v 11 & we have had opportunities

  • ZeeNut says:

And Liverpool duly make it 1-0 …. What an immature defender Christensen

  • ZeeNut says:

And now 2-0 of a howler from Kepa …. Nothing going his way, looks like Mendy will walk into the squad

  • ZeeNut says:

Lets see if we can salvage some pride by the end

  • ZeeNut says:

Werner garners a penalty but Allison stays in position till the very end & saves of Jorginho

  • ZeeNut says:

Timo Werner has heart …. He will be a Chelsea great for sure

    My assessment of the game…

    1. The team is not fully fit… They are not sharp at all.

    2. The red card tilted the game to Liverpool,.. We were underdogs in the game, but the red card away the remaining chance to get atleast a point.

    3. Kai was better than against brighton.
    4. Leaving jorginho on while we were 10 men was not right…

    What this team needs :

    1. This team needs to learn how to be solid, aggressive and having grit. We won’t pose great threats to big teams with our softies.

    2. Why do our defenders only react and don’t anticipate the play?

We don’t read the game, and notice patterns… So easy for pool to play through alonso and scored that first goal with a dink cross to mane, even James didn’t anticipate that.
This part of the game is hurting Chelsea….

    And lampard can’t improve it.

To be a top team that win trophies is deeper than buying players….

The manager must be a top cos coach that notices every detail… We don’t have such yet..

  • wizzy zube says:

Am beginning to think lampard is going easy with these guys…

He needs to toughen them up…

This is almost the scenario when Guus hiddink came after Scolari and said the players are not fit at all… Yet Scolari was playing them like that, just to achieve beautiful football.

Lampard should toughen these guys up..

    We have many softies now…

Abraham, odoi, pulisic, werner, Mount, ziyech, Kai, jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, softies that needs to be toughened up.

  • wizzy zube says:

Having watched the game the second time…

I can say while lampard is still learning…. He is not tactically astute… It seems Arteta is better in this regard.

    Small details in games…

You started a game, just to nullify the threat of pool… A red card and they scored, you brought in a defender.. They scored a goal in 50 mins… You still left jorginho in that team!!! … And kept Kante upfront, he got in the box from a fine pass from werner and couldn’t handle it well…

Remove jorginho and bring in Abraham immediately they scored… Let Kante and Kovacic sit in front of the defense and mount in front of them… Abraham and werner in front for pace.

When Kova gets tired, replace him with barkley…

Simple details, is the reason lampard won’t be a top coach…

Liverpool were there for the taking today… But lampard and his team failed yet again…..

Again, toughen this team… We have too many softies…

Big teams always BULLY Lampard’s Chelsea,… Liverpool, bayern, united, even arsenal will join them.

    I want this to change…

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

You have made some solid points there but I don’t want to agree with you that Lampard is tactically inept. If memory serves me correctly, I think this is the second time he would have a player sent off and have to chase the . We need to give him time to really make his mark but I agree that he is not helping matters with being too reactive than proactive and I agree that we didn’t seize the opportunity as they were there for the taking particularly with the combination of Fabinho and Arnold on the right side of their defence. Leeds United gave them a torrid time from that side and I agree that we were too soft in tackles
