Before I left for a short sunshine break, in Norfolk, it seems very likely that Manchester United were set to sign the Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.

However, according to one leading Sunday tabloid, the Sunday People, that scenario could be set to change.

Our referenced source is intimating that following the ruckus surrounding Chelsea`s lack of activity in the summer transfer market and the possibility that Antonio Conte may quit, Chelsea are set to move in and try and scupper any possible deal being set up by Manchester United.

The inference given by our source is that Chelsea are plotting to bring the Real Madrid striker, who has been a large part of Chelsea`s reported transfer plans this summer, to Stamford Bridge.

Our source is championing the suggestion that Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a bid of £70 million to bring the Spanish international to London.

Now whether the bid is of sufficient magnitude to be accepted by Real Madrid and whether Manchester United can be gazumped remains to be seen.

We`ll endeavour to keep a watchful eye out for any developments.
