Before I left for a short sunshine break, in Norfolk, it seems very likely that Manchester United were set to sign the Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.

However, according to one leading Sunday tabloid, the Sunday People, that scenario could be set to change.

Our referenced source is intimating that following the ruckus surrounding Chelsea`s lack of activity in the summer transfer market and the possibility that Antonio Conte may quit, Chelsea are set to move in and try and scupper any possible deal being set up by Manchester United.

The inference given by our source is that Chelsea are plotting to bring the Real Madrid striker, who has been a large part of Chelsea`s reported transfer plans this summer, to Stamford Bridge.

Our source is championing the suggestion that Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a bid of £70 million to bring the Spanish international to London.

Now whether the bid is of sufficient magnitude to be accepted by Real Madrid and whether Manchester United can be gazumped remains to be seen.

We`ll endeavour to keep a watchful eye out for any developments.

  • For me this is the deal that makes sense. WIth Diego Costa leaving we will need a solid striker. I like Morota very much I think he would fit better than Lukaku. I still have my doubt about Lukakau. His hold up play. His attitude and for a big guy he really doesnt score a lot of goals with his head. Now I would rather have Lukaku and Morata.

  • I hope this is not some cooked up story just to cheer us up. I read it on the rumour page of goal.com

  • not required. Better to get Lukaku. Both similar attributes, similar price.. but Lukaku counts as HG.
