As we all recover from the ‘Burnley mauling`, it`s early, but thoughts must turn to our next Premier League encounter. It sees us returning to familiar ground when we face Tottenham Hotspur at their new, temporary home, Wembley Stadium.

It`s a place Chelsea have got to know very well over recent years. It`s a ground that has been very lucky in terms of victories, but for Spurs it`s the opposite. They have struggled to truly conquer their fortunes there.

Following last season`s FA Cup final, it will be Chelsea`s 3rd appearance on the hallowed turf in just 5 games. If Chelsea are to recover from their EPL week 1 defeat, they will need ‘lady luck` to shine on them alone.

Antonio Conte has a lot of work to do with this squad during the week, to muddle together any sort of decent starting XI. The team will be depleted by injury and suspension. Conte will have limited playing resources and he will be trying fit these players into his side

Thibaut Courtois
Cesar Azpilicueta
David Luiz
Antonio Rudiger
Andreas Christensen
Marcos Alonso
N`golo Kante
Victor Moses
Willian
Jeremie Boga
Pedro
Michy Batshuayi
Alvaro Morata
Charley Musonda

Pedro may have recovered from injury which will make choosing the starting line-up slightly easier, but any of that 11 need to be replaced, we are in deep deep trouble.

Chelsea`s potential line-up on the Wembley turf could be Thibaut Courtois in goal, defenders Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, wing-backs Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses, N`golo Kante as holding midfielder behind David Luiz, Willian and Pedro (if fit) with Alvaro Morata leading the line. If Pedro does not make it, Michy Batshuayi plays up front with Morata out wide.

Not too shabby a starting XI, if Conte can work hard in the week as he likes to say, I would suggest all is not totally lost, and the Spurs fans may not have as comfortable an afternoon as they would like to believe

  • I guess conte have to make do with what he has for now, Wenger does this constantly, try and blend in academy players too.

  • My suggestions are on the assumption that Pedro will be available. If he is not this will get even more difficult.
Call me harsh but against Spurs i would actually want us to Start Caballero in goal. TCs showing in this match was really uninspring and he needs to be sent a message that no–one not even him is un-benchable.
    I would suggest starting as follows;
Caballero, Back 3 of Rudiger, AC and Cesar, Mids of Kante and Luis, WBs; Alonso and Moses. Front three of Pedro, Moses and Morata
Bench; TC, Boga, Musonda and after that i guess Tomori and whoever else is left from the youth squad..thats how bad things are from a depth perspective now..wow!!!
If we escape from Wembley with a point i will be elated and deeply thankful. Would be even better if we do so with 11 men still on the pitch when the match is done and with no injuries.

  • Sorry..i forgot to include Bats on my suggested subs list.. that helps a great deal and makes it look much better as far as options of the bench that could impact the game.

  • Lets hope we avoid another red, or get goals called back . I agree about dropping TC, he seemed not that interested today, even Luis was yelling at him . Willy would be be wanting that spot, id actually feel more secure with him at this point .

  • We have 7 days. Assuming we have 2 days rest, after playing with 10 and then 9 men. That’s still five full days for us to drill the boys for Spurs. What I would like to see, though don’t expect it, is to get a midfielder in the next few days. Baka not fit, Cesc suspended, Baker’s loaned out. We have one CM available, that’s Kante. And that is abysmal to say the least.

  • We are surely missing Hazard. But I believe we can put Spurs to the sword anytime. All we need is to stop them from playing their game. I am sure they will bring up their thuggish behaviour again. That may count against them.

  • Bearing any more injuries and suspensions, beating spuds should be really no big deal for Chelsea even with our depleted squad. Besides, they (spuds) have never looked their real selves at Wembley.

  • If Pedro is not fit, 3-4-3…….

    .Courtois…..Azpi..Christensen.. Rudiger……….Moses.. Kante..Luiz…Alonso……..Willian..Morata…Boga.

    OR 3-5-2………..Courtois…Azpi..Christen….Rudiger…..Moses..Willian..Kante..Luiz…Alonso…….Morata..Bats.

  • My first 11 will be MARIA in goal, Luis , azpi, Rudiger, wing backs Moses, and Alonso, midfielders should be EMENALO and Kante, attackers Morata, Pedro, and Willian. Coach Roman. This way no one gets the sack after the match.

  • Do not start Bats or TC in this game, both not good enough currently. Luiz to stand in midfield and Boga to partner Morata. Unless Pedro is fit to play

  • This game will be won or lost in midfield, look how easy they mad it look against Newcastle once they took control in the middle third. Errikson is the danger man, someone has stick close to him at all times.

  • Time for 3-5-2…. Courtosis – Azpi – Christensen – Rudiger – Azpi – Kante – Luiz – Alonso – Willian – Morata – Batman
