Chelsea Striker Departure Speculation Starts To Gather Momentum

|

After just one season at Stamford Bridge, media speculation is increasing and suggesting that our record buy, Alvaro Morata could be a summer departure.

The Spanish striker, who arrived for a fee, said to be in the region of, £60 million from Real Madrid last summer, had a mixed season.

Although in his first Premier League season, he netted 11 goals in 31 appearances, the majority of those goals came in the first half of the season. In fact, the statistics show that Morata only scored the 1 goal after Boxing Day and that came in the defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, at Stamford Bridge.

But, continuing on a theme of a possible departure, the news source, Talksport, has picked up on something that appeared in the German media vehicle, Bild, inferring that Borussia Dortmund are looking to take the 25-year-old to the Bundesliga.

However, there doesn’t look like there’ll be an immediate deal done with the German club, who had Michy Batshuayi on loan for the second-half of last season, reluctant to pay the £45 million price-tag Chelsea have placed on the Spaniard’s head.

When Alvaro arrived at Chelsea huge things were expected of him and he started the season well, establishing a rapport with Cesar Azpilicueta that saw the defender produce several perfect crosses for Morata to score from.

But, in the second-half of the season Morata didn’t seem the same player, troubled by niggling injuries, the Spaniard didn’t give the impression he was a player willing to die for the blue shirt and, as the season came to an end, found himself ousted from the starting eleven by Olivier Giroud.

Would I be upset to see Morata go?

Being totally honest, I’d say NO!

But, that’s only my opinion, what is your view on the subject matter?
