Chelsea v Crystal Palace – Premier League – Match Day Moments

|

This lunchtime, with a 12:30 kick-off on the menu, Chelsea welcomes Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge, for a Premier League fixture.

It is the last game before the second international break of the season interrupts the Premier League campaign.

After the exit, at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, from the Carabao Cup in midweek, the Chelsea support will be looking for a victory that will ease the media pressure building on our manager, Frank Lampard.

A is the norm, except in unavoidable circumstances, here at Vital Chelsea, we are running our usual Match Day Moments feature where we encourage you to offer your views on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to the big game.

2 – The starting eleven selected by Frank Lampard.

3 – The action as it happens at Stamford bridge.

4 – Your thoughts in the immediate aftermath of the final whistle sounding.

Hopefully, we will all be celebrating a home win and hopefully after a good performance.

Mendy starts, Zouma partners Thiago, no room for Mount, Jorginho in though?

    In that order

Hopefully, CHO will seize this moment to register himself as a player the coach should take seriously. He has loads of talent,no doubt about that, but he has to be more effective and decisive in the final third

Congratulations fellow blues. It was a fine, if not great, display from the boys today and long may it continue. There’s room for a lot of improvement to be made and surely with time the boys will come to understand each other. One thing I’m glad about right now is that there’s goals in all areas of team and that’s a good thing to have if you really want to challenge for titles.

My talking points in today’s game.
    (1) The pairing of Silva and Zouma is the best we have right now and the boss should give them a good run of games together for them to properly understand themselves
    (2) Kai Havertz is getting better game by game and will cause opposing teams problems when used in the Attacking Midfield role. We have ourselves a lad who’ll score goals and create them in equal measure
    (3) The Man of the Match to is Ben Chilwell and now we are getting a glimpse of what the fuss is really about. A brilliant modern-day full-back who knows the league inside out. I was excited to see him play today and I was not disappointed
    (4) No disrespect to Mason Mount but our transition from midfield to the opposition box today was effectively brilliant. Good tempo, precise passing, nice link-up play with the attackers. All these were achieved without Mason. It got me thinking, does Mount really offer us anything aside his relentless running?
    (5) I could be wrong on this one but I think the lack of goals is weighing on Timo Werner’s mind and affecting his confidence. This guy is a stone cold finisher and he has wasted a few good opportunities that he should have converted. In case you’re asking, he hit a ball to goalie’s near post when he should’ve taken a touch and aim for the far corner. It is early days and I expect the manager to work it out with him and get the pressure off his chest.
(6)Save for a fine low save to block a squared ball, Mendy had almost nothing to do today. He looks assured though.
    (7) Credit where it’s due. Lampard got his selection right for this game especially by playing Azpilicueta in place of James. Of course James attacks the flank better but Azpi is a good man marker and assured tackler. Azpi particularly contained Eze and Zaha today and got a yellow for a foul he committed in a position of no threat at all. James would’ve been rash in tackling and might commit fouls against those two pacy players. For me that’s a tactical masterclass from Lamps.
    (8) Everyone, where I watched the game, burst into applause following the introduction of Pulisic and almost immediately he was running at Palace’s defence with the ball at his feet despite coming on when all goal have been scored. The boy is hungry and I can’t wait for Lamps to unleash him against our upcoming opponents.
    (9) Abraham deserve to be taught that the team is bigger than any individual and club golry surpass personal accolades. He played well and drew a penalty but the team already has someone delegated for taking penalties and that’s Jorginho. A repeat of what happened last season with Barkley against Valencia in the Champions’ League should be avoided

Awesome, Rizwan … I’d like to say that the biggest takeaway for me was that in Chilwell we have finally got a player who can deliver dangerous corners …. we have missed such a fine corner taker since the manager’s days here !!

    Ridwan, sorry
