Chelsea v Sevilla – Champions League – Match Day Moments

|

As the 2020 / 2021 season gathers momentum, the games continue to come thick and fast.

Tonight, Chelsea take a break from their Premier League commitments to start their Champions League Group E campaign against the highly-rated Spanish side, Sevilla.

It is a tough tie for Chelsea with Sevilla being the top-ranked side in the group, but it is a fixture that Chelsea can win, providing the defence does not revert to its calamitous state.

As usual, we are running our Match Day Moments feature where we encourage you to participate and leave your opinion on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to the big game

2 – The starting XI selected by Frank Lampard

3 – The action as it happens at Stamford Bridge.

4 – Your thoughts after the sounding of the final whistle.

Here is hoping that come the sounding of the final whistle we can all sleep tight knowing that Chelsea have three points on the board ahead of the next Champions League fixture, on 28-October, against FK Krasnodar

I wish blues come out of the game victorious today against tough side Devil’s and I also wish LAMPARD get the selection right which has been his problem so far according to what I observed. Good luck blues.

As much as I love Lamps for being a Chelsea legend, he is still an amateur when it comes to football management. A team is built on the ability to attack and defend at the same time and with regards to that we are not a complete team under Lamps. In attack we are as good as the best while we are like kids in the playground when it comes to the other aspect. It could be the result of Lamps being an attack minded player in his playing days but managing a team should cover all aspects of the game. Our defenders are not the best but they are clearly not the worst in world football. It has to be that there is something wrong with the instructions that they are given on match days

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

Personally I prefer the Zouma-Silva partnership and it would do us a lot if good if Lamps give them time to fork a solid base for the team. We can’t keep chopping and changing the team for every match. Claudio Ranieri was the tinkerman and it didn’t bring him any success when he was Chelsea manager. Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti are the two most successful Chelsea managers because they have a recognised team and they only make changes in the event of injuries and suspensions up to the point that Mourinho had Five untouchable players in our team then of which this same Lamps was one of them. Every team should have a base of core players who will form the basis on which the rest of the squad is built on.

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

Like I mentioned earlier, Zouma and Silva should be the bedrock of our defence with Kante in front of them. Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech should be in charge of our weaponry up front and the remaining positions should be rotated amongst the rest of the players based on their form and position. Jorginho should slug it out with Kovacic and Mount should do the same with Kai. Alonso must fight Chilwell for the left back slot while James should give it his all to dislodge the experienced Azpilicueta. Hudson Odoi, Giroud, Gilmour, Tammy, Tomori and Rudiger should be at the ready to grab any opportunities given to them and show the coach what he is missing by not selecting them. Up the Chels.

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

Lamps keep Ziyech on the bench again! This is hilarious. This sentiments will be the end of Lamps. Hopefully we win tonight and his selection his justified, otherwise, his days are surely numbered

A young team needs an experienced manager.

    If not, displeasure, disaster awaits.

  • wizzy zube says:

When an inexperienced manager arranges a team, it will never be solid.

Which forgets the toress,… Hazard, Oscar mata, Mikel Ramires or lampard midfield?? During di Matteo time?

Very good players, but young, and with fairly inexperienced manager… Dropped from Ucl group stage to Europa league… Threw away 2-0 lead at the bridge to juventus?

Benitez was able to coordinate them, to Europa league win, and 3rd finish in the league.

Its happening again… Young good players with inexperienced manager… The football lacks solid structure.
    No obvious plan.
