Chelsea v West Ham – Post Match Chat

|

The managers have had their say after a 1-1 draw all but ended Chelsea`s slim hopes of Champions League football next season.

Antonio Conte was, unsurprisingly, disappointed with end result. He felt Chelsea`s clinical inability in front of goal has repeatedly hampered his sides title defence.

‘When I talk, I’m frustrated for everyone. For myself. For the players. We win together, lose together, draw together. When we have this type of result we have to share the responsibility together, not with this or another.”

‘But, I repeat, it’s very difficult for me to explain today this game. We are talking the truth after we have dominated the game, created a lot of opportunities to score the second, third or fourth goal, we concede and draw.”

From a fans perspective it`s just not good enough. These players, this manager have to show more passion and will to win. No doubt, it`s too late for this season, any players that don`t want to at Chelsea can move on. Conte continued to spout his well worn work mantra,

“We must be realistic. If we are not able to win this type of game, we are talking about what? About what? I like to continue to say ‘we need to continue to work and improve’, but you must win this game if you want to reach a target.”

Chelsea will miss out on Champions League football as they fall further behind Tottenham. The most disappointing thing for supporters is, Conte`s personality change. The Italian was so loved last season, his demeanour celebrations became a joy to behold. This time round he can barely raise a smile.

He claims he`s bored with constantly reeling out the same old excuse of poor finishing in his post match interviews. The Chelsea fans booing his team off at the end are too. It`s just not good enough.

On the other hand David Moyes was of course happier with his sides point, but not Chelsea`s goal,

“I`m not disappointed, I thought we played against a really slick Chelsea team, particularly in the first half, and I was happy to get in only 1-0 down.”

“We gave away a really poxy first goal. If it had been a really good footballing goal? it was a bad goal. But we were always in with a chance at 1-0.

As it turned out Chelsea`s frailties in front of goal and their susceptibility to a small Mexican was their undoing. Moyes was also keen to point out the behaviour of their fans was good, as was their appreciation of Ray Wilkins,

“After the situation against Burnley, the club and the team have done a brilliant job, and the supporters? the way they gave their tribute to Ray Wilkins was a credit.”

In a season of woe, this result was just one more to the growing number of poor performances. West Ham have taken 4 points off us, we`ve had a just 1 point from the two meetings. I repeat?.not good enough.
