Anyone who followed Sky Televisions Football Icon programme may be interested in the following, especially those supporters of other clubs who have no idea as to what has happened to one of the winners.

The second series, as many a Chelsea supporter will know, was won by Carl Magnay, a defender from ‘up-norf` who has a style not too dissimilar to that of our club captain.

Since winning ‘Football Icon` Carl has continued to carve out a Chelsea career and is a regular feature in the reserve side.

His progress has been such that he`s now progressing towards international honours and has been selected for the Northern Ireland U21 squad for the friendly against Scotland on November 18th.

Despite being Gateshead born, Carl has Northern Irish grandparents and his selection has come about thanks to a tip off from Brendan Rogers with the Northern Irish U21 manager, Steve Beaglehole remarking,

“I was given a tip-off about Carl by Brendan Rogers, the Chelsea reserve team manager.”

“I heard good reports about him and he impressed when I saw him play.”

“Anyone who is a regular in Chelsea`s reserve side must be good quality.”

Here at Vital Chelsea we`d like to offer our congratulations to Carl who has gone some way to proving there is a degree of truth in the old saying,

If at first you don`t succeed, try, try again!
