Chelsea’s Alonso Linked With Barcelona Move

|

The form of Marcos Alonso, since the Spaniard joined Chelsea back in August 2016, has seen him become one of the first names Antonio Conte scribes on his team-sheet each game.

However, if transfer speculation that has appeared this morning is to be believed, then Alonso’s days at Stamford Bridge could be set to come to an end.

The popular tabloid publication, Goal is reporting that the Catalan giants of Barcelona are considering making a move for the 27-year-old.

But, our source is reporting that Barcelona are not after Alonso for his ability to play as a raiding wing-back, instead, Barcelona sees Alonso operating as a centre-back.

Barcelona are looking for a replacement for the ageing Gerard Pique, who is now 31-years-old, and are of the opinion that Alonso, who has played as a centre-back during his time, in Serie A, with Fiorentina, can be converted into a world-class operative at the heart of the Spanish defence.

Now whether a move to Barcelona would appeal to Alonso remains to be seen, but, in our opinion, any approach from Barcelona for the player would, considering Barcelona’s status in football, would seem something that Alonso would be sure to carefully consider.

Here at Vital Chelsea we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and report back as deemed necessary.
