We’re at that stage of the year whereby it’s out with the old and in with the new.
In other words, it’s time to consider dispensing with the home shirt Chelsea have worn this season and reveal what the attire looks like for next season.
Sat here in the editorial chair, I can recall when shirts were plain, the numbers on the back went from 1 to 11 and sponsorship logos were non-existent, yes, I really am that old.
But, these days, like so many aspects of the game, football shirts are a valued financial stream and something that makes the club a small fortune.
Today, Chelsea, via their Twitter account, released the first picture of the 2018 / 2019 shirt.
The stage is lit.
