Chelsea’s Spanish Defender Is A Wanted Man

Any lingering doubts regarding the Chelsea career of Marcos Alonso continuing this season have surely been answered since I last commented on the subject.

The 29-year-old was guilty of an awful 45 minutes, away to West Bromwich Albion, where his lacklustre play saw him culpable for two of the three first-half goals the Baggies scored.

Then came those reports, as confirmed by The Sun of the after-match row between the 29-year-old Spaniard and Frank Lampard which surely gave a clear indication of an imminent departure.

So, if that is the case, where next for the left=back who is clearly better at going forward than he is defending?

One possible destination, being championed by Sky Sports, is a reunion with his former boss, Antonio Conte, at Inter Milan.

Conte knows all about the Spaniard’s attacking abilities and, in my opinion, clearly has the intention of playing Alonso as a wing-back.

But if Alonso were to be sold it would leave Chelsea with a predicament.

It had been thought that Emerson would also be leaving during this transfer window, but if both were to leave Chelsea would then be lacking cover for Ben Chilwell, if the summer acquisition were to pick up an injury or a suspension.

But, then again, there is always the reliable Cesar Azpilicueta who could fill the void.

But what are your thoughts on the Alonso situation?
