Often, loan spells don`t serve the purpose they`re intended for.

Players go off on a season long loan looking for regular first-team football but find that they`re sat on the bench for long periods of time.

Thankfully, that hasn`t been the case with regards to our centre-back Kurt Zouma.

The 23-year-old Frenchman is enjoying a decent start to the season with Stoke City and his displays have seen him mentioned as being Stokes best player of the season.

Speculation recently suggested that Chelsea might seek to bring Zouma back to Stamford Bridge in January, although Stoke have no legal obligation to return the player with his loan deal conditions having been adhered to.

Mark Hughes, the Stoke manager, has taken time out to assure the Stoke support Zouma will not be leaving the Potteries and is quoted in the local media source, the Stoke Senitel as having remarked about the situation,

“I don`t think it`s possible.

“I`m almost certain it`s not possible and I`d be aggrieved if it was. I don`t think there`s any way that they can have a call-back.

“Usually, if a player is not playing or he`s gone out on loan and he`s not had the games that he and his club expected, sometimes you can have a conversation even if nothing is in place.

“You can go through a process where maybe people think it`s better if he goes back to his parent club, but clearly that`s not the case with Kurt and if there`s nothing in place he won`t be going back.”

In my opinion, it makes sense to leave Zouma where he is, last season Nathan Ake, after performing well for Bournemouth, saw his loan spell cut short only to return to Stamford Bridge and barely feature for the first team.

Zouma will benefit far more if he remains at Stoke and continues to play regular first-team football.
