Andreas Christensen performance against Spurs at Wembley on Sunday may cause Gary Cahill a concern after the young Dane live up to expectation by filling the void left by Chelsea captain, Gary Cahill following the red card he deservedly got against Burnley on the day 1 of the season at Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte needed to call on the 21-year-old Danish international to make his first start against the second best club (Spurs) in EPL football last season and also the side which also possess best attacking threats in players like Harry Kane, Dele Ali and Christian Erikson.

Though, Christensen never showed any panic facing the trio. He was calm, confident and showed best of composure not normally expected of a player of his status. He is more of a ball playing defender and reads the game well by also linking up play with the midfielders when necessary.

He has the aerial ability, good timing and all round ball player?..just second to none.

I will say I am seeing another Gerrard Pique in Christensen.

Cahill is set to miss the Everton and Leicester City matches following his careless tackle that got our dear captain a red card and a three card suspension.

Is it enough time for Christensen to convince the blues family of what he’s capable of?

If the Dane could maintain his decent performance produced at Wembley, do you think Cahill`s place could be under threat?

  • I’ve always thought that Cahill was the weak link in that back three. Have to admit that I was surprised and disappointed when he was made permanent captain, an honour which should have gone to David or Dave, in my opinion. I think the single factor weighing in Cahill’s favour is his nationality in light of the Fair Play rules but he’s not an intelligent player and Christensen evidently is.

  • As much as I liked Cahill, he brain fart s is becoming a little more regular for my liking. I don’t think Christensen would be starting the next two matches becuase of this one game bcos Conte would he able to deploy Luiz back in his sweeper role and Fabregas probably back in team but honestly I would like to see Christensen play like 2 to 3 games after Cahill suspension to put Cahill position under threat

  • Cahill is the weak link in that back 3 his lack of pace and inability to read the game very well keeps exposing the left flank making Alonso look weak but Tottenham game really showed us why Cahill shouldn’t come back anytime soon to the line up, if he had played that match Chelsea wouldn’t have gone into the dressing room at first half trailing or 1 v 1 rudiger looked strong and well assured build for the epl game , Christensen needs to start next match considering his performance against tottenham.. Terry was the captain he sat on the bench Cahill isn’t bigger than Terry so he should relax the team comes first

  • Christensen is showing he has the potential to be a starter in the team just that he’s more suited to playing in the middle of the back three which is where Geezer has turned to his own, let’s see what the coach feels about the team selection

  • Great performance, this guy deserves a start in the first eleven, in order to encourage you need to reward.

  • He just needs game time and he will turn out good. With Rudiger I am assured we have an upgrade on cahil.

  • Christensen and Cahill play different position on the field in a three man defence, it’s Rudiger’s play that determines who takes the LCB slot in the three-man defence. Christensen will compete and maybe deputise for Luiz for the season. 0 7 Aba

  • Conte’s one mistake this season so far is making Cahill the captain. Be that as it may, I hope he continue with AC at the expense of Cahill. Cahill can feature in the cup games.

  • I agree with you @vicbrown. Despite Spurs pace and all that Alonso did show any kind of weakness. It shows Cahill has been the weaknagreeess while some of us have been slaying Alonso for his defensive frailties.

  • Chris, oh the lad is good!! But Cahill is the captain and he can’t be ditched easily. It will soon be his time, but for the time being he should be calm and steady
