There was no need for Ashley Cole to be present at the Emirates Stadium last night, probably to the annoyance of the Arsenal support who love to bait their former player.

Mourinho, on the back of the thrilling win over Manchester City at the weekend, had decided the left-back needed a rest and that Ryan Bertrand was quite capable of doing a decent job.

Cole, now thirty-two years of age, remains a valuable asset to the squad and with his contract expiring in the summer, is hoping to get an extension.

Speaking to the media, Cole has remarked,

“I signed an extension at the start of the year and so have this year left. However, that will be up at the end of the season.”

“I hope to stay for longer. I have had a great career here and, of course, I`d love to stay if they still want me.”

“There is going to be a time when they will have to replace me.”

“I have Ryan Bertrand in my place and one day I`m going to watch him play, so the time will come when I will finish my career.”

So, the burning question today is – Should Chelsea award Ashley Cole a contract extension? If yes why and if not, why not?
