Conte Contemplating a Managerial Sabbatical

|

The common theme amongst the news hounds, since Chelsea won the FA Cup at Wembley, has been the managerial future of Antonio Conte.

Most news publications are of the opinion that Conte, after winning the Premier League last season and the FA Cup this season, is set to be sacked.

But, the consensus of opinion is that there is, currently, something of a stalemate situation developing.

Conte remains insistent that he is committed to Chelsea Football Club and will be with us next season, whilst others suggest that the club are waiting for Conte to leave therefore forfeiting his, reputed, £9 million pay-off.

But, approaching the subject from another angle, the news source, the Telegraph, is insisting that if the Italian is to be sacked then he may opt to take a sabbatical from the game.

The theory being based around the fact that several lucrative job avenues are, as we speak, being closed with positions at Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain and also the Italian national side being filled whilst Conte and Chelsea continue to hedge their bets.

Therefore, if, as we suspect, Conte is set to be axed by the Chelsea hierarchy, the Italian may have no other choice than to take a sabbatical and wait for another top-job to materialise somewhere down the line.

If that were to be the case it’d be a shame, Conte is, undoubtedly, one of the best managers around, something the Chelsea hierarchy seem oblivious to, but then again there are only a certain number of top jobs to go around.
