Conte’s Target Set

Chelsea overcame another obstacle on Wednesday when Manchester City were beaten, which also moved the Blues a win closer to winning the Premier League.

Eden Hazard’s brace, either side on an equaliser from Sergio Aguero, secured Chelsea a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge to keep the Blues seven points clear of Chelsea – who managed a late comeback to beat Swansea.

Conte feels another 18 points are needed to bring the Premier League trophy back to Stamford Bridge with this his target.

He was quoted by the BBC: ‘Tottenham could win eight games. For this reason to win the title we need 18 points.’

With a trip to Old Trafford against Manchester United, on 16th April, along with a meeting against Everton on 30th April the Chelsea boss is well aware there’s work to be done.

However, Conte said a ‘good season’ will become a ‘great season’ with another six wins:

‘We must be focused and try to win six games and take three points. If we are able to do this, we will win the title. Otherwise it will be a good season, but not a great season. We will remember this season if we win.’

Tottenham were dead and buried, with the title virtually wrapped up, with 88 minutes played at the Liberty Stadium until three late goals gave them a 3-1 at Swansea.

A defiant Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said his side will ‘never give up.’

He added: ‘If you compare Chelsea and Tottenham over the last 10 years, it is true Chelsea won more titles. We believe and never give up, we always try and we were always pushing. I believe that we can win every game if we play like today – and then we’ll see.’

Chelsea could need a favour from London rivals Arsenal on 30th April and another from Man United on 13th May, then again it’s in the Blues’ hands so there shouldn’t be any ‘relying’ on anyone!
