I’ve been out of the office, my output restrained by having to do 5 x 12 hour shifts, thereby negating any time I’ve had to entertain you all.
But, since I’ve been temporarily silenced, it’s noticeable that the furore relating to Maurizio Sarri’s future as the Chelsea manager continues to generate huge amounts of media column inches.
Just delving into the many available to me, it seems, according to the news source, Sky Sports, that Juventus, despite the style of football Sarri has implemented at Chelsea, are still keen to land Sarri as the replacement for the departing Massimiliano Allegri.
In fact, another source, the Telegraph, throws into the mix the suggestion that if Juventus offered Chelsea a sum of £5 million as compensation, they’d willingly let Sarri go.
But perhaps the most entertaining article I’ve stumbled upon, courtesy of the BBC, is that Sarri himself has stated that if his future depends on the outcome of the Europa League Final he’d rather be axed now, with our source quoting the Italian as having remarked;
“If the situation is like that I want to go immediately because you cannot after 10 months of work have to play everything in 90 minutes.
“You are either happy with my work or not happy.”
Well, I’m not but then again that’s my view.
But can you imagine the scenario if Sarri and his backroom staff were to leave with immediate effect, just who would take over?
Which brings us nicely round to a discussion I missed, courtesy of the Sun, that suggested the Chelsea Ladies team boss, Emma Hayes, could manage the club.
I’m not quite sure how that grabs you and at the risk of being called a sexist (amongst other things), I have to say the thought horrifies me.
