As Diego Costa powered in a close range header in the 83rd minute of the Champions League knock-out phase, he only had one man to thank for the significance of his goal. Thibaut Courtois, our 21 year old goalkeeper who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, pulled off two marvellous saves from a Kaka shot and Poli header, keeping Atletico on terms with Milan.

So the question about next season rears its head once again. Courtois really does look like the finished article, a powerful keeper who is both confident and agile. Do you think we should bring him into the first team next season, at the expense of our long-time stalwart Petr Cech? Questions, questions, questions.

The rumours of Costa for Courtois are also rumbling quietly in the background and, after the game, the 25 year old striker had this to say about his Belgian team-mate.

‘Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.’

‘It was a very difficult game against a big team but we have been able to withstand the pressure and at the key moment we sought the result.’

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to celebrate too much after the victory, knowing the calibre of players and coach Milan possess at the moment.

With no less than Clarence Seedorf set to visit, Simeone added: ‘I am absolutely calm. We know that the Champions League is difficult.

‘It is a good step but there’s a lot left to play. The result has been good but it cannot be trusted upon with a team like Milan. You have to work to keep going.’

Imagine having both of them? That would be a sight for sore eyes but I can’t see Atletico giving us both of them.

What do you guys think?

Up the Blues!
