Dickson and Kehill – Programme Blues

As a youngster, I had a vast collection of football programmes.

They were piled up in the bottom of the wardrobe and I was quite pleased I had one from, at the time, all 92 Football League clubs.

But as the years have passed they`ve been lost, victim of clear-out after clear-out where decluttering was the name of the game.

However, I wasn`t foolish enough to chuck away all my Chelsea related ones they`re still hidden safely away.

But, my view is that football programmes are not what they once were, like everything in football, commercial necessity has taken over.

Flicking through the various news sites this morning, something in the Daily Mail, grabbed my attention.

It relates to the match programme for the fixture last night (FK Qarabag v Chelsea) and the fact the Chelsea players names are printed on the back of the programme but not as we know them, with Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas, just selecting two, listed as ‘Hari Kehill’ and ‘Sesk Fabreqas’.

Seeing that article reminded me of a time I ventured into Kenilworth Road to see Chelsea take on Luton Town, looking at the back page of the programme they`d listed our top-scorer of the time, Kerry Dixon as ‘Terry Dickson`.

I guess it`s a mistake anyone can make until you realise that Kerry Dixon was born and bred in Luton. To this day I reckon it was a deliberate wind-up!
