I’ve been closely following our business throughout this transfer window, and on the outside it seems like were off the pace from last summer whilst rivals have built a head of steam up.

Whereas at a closer look we are actually where we need to be.

Taking a glance at our rivals we can see Liverpool, as they continue their trend of buying Southampton’s finest and continue to sign average strikers – of which they now have so many (I`ve counted 6), whilst Man City can continue to buy the biggest whingers from those below them (See Nasri in the past and now Sterling – and I did mean whingers not wingers).

Manchester United since signing Memphis Depay have been pre-occupied with holding on to De Gea and flirting with Ramos for good measure, I half expect them to sign Harry Kane however, just a hunch no basis whatsoever.

So more importantly back to us.

Last season was a productive one, which included the signings of Costa, Fabregas, amongst the Drog and others. Whilst we also saw some favourites and fringe player’s leave including David Luiz, and Andre Schurrle.

Our strategy seems different so far this summer we have raided South America for young talented players, and a more senior figure in Radamel Falcao who is understood to have signed in the knowledge of being our third choice striker.

Whilst there are still many rumours floating around, including the signing of Chilean central midfielder Charles Aranguiz. I’ve come to the conclusion that our period of relative inactivity may just be what is needed.

Looking at our squad we will sign a back-up goalkeeper, but remember Hilario and Ross Turnbull, and the handful of appearances they made. This signing is crucial, but in truth their impact could very well be minimal on the pitch.

Defensive depth is another issue, but if we keep Felipe Luis, and I believe we will, Azpilicueta can play on either side of the defence. The only depth we may require will be in the middle where we may see Kalas or Christensen fill the void in lesser fixtures. I’d say the pre-season tour could very well confirm this.

Midfield, is slightly more difficult as I don’t think Matic or Fabregas will be moved from their starting spots, and after them there is Ramires, Oscar, Mikel and Loftus Cheek who can all fill in that gap if required, not to mention Van Ginkel, Romeu and Piazon who could be welcomed in to the fold with the former two recovering from horrible injuries and playing elsewhere last year.

Mikel is rumoured to leave, but that’s all fallen silent recently. We have a wide choice of wingers too in Hazard, Caudrado, Willian and also Ramires if required, and for the moment Salah also. I still think that both Salah and Caudrado will leave, probably along with Victor Moses, which combined will go a long way to funding a new marquee name to slot on the right wing. The rumours surrounding Arda Turan confirm that this is an area we are looking cover, whilst Bertrand Traore is rumoured to be in the first team picture.

Upfront, we have three proven big game strikers fighting for one position. I don’t think that this will change unless Remy decides to leave. Which would be a shame as I believe he could possibly fulfil a similar role to that which Anelka did so brilliantly, when he came to us, both are technically gifted, unexpectedly fast and composed finishers and while Anelka linked well with Drogba the same could happen with Remy and Costa.

So there we have it, I believe we will sign a right-winger, and a goalkeeper, and that this is business completed early, just like last summer.

Our focus I think will be on the Champions League, so if a Pogba or big game player enters the market I would not rule it out.
