Considering that, so far, our transfer activity has been negligible, traffic on the site has been pretty decent.

But, reading through the comments, it`s noticeable that many relate to our Academy.

Early last week, I received an e-mail from a valued Vital Chelsea member, Since1963, which carried a prompt to write an article relating to the Academy.

With John Terry set to ride off into the sunset, after a very successful career with Chelsea Football Club, a career that few will ever match, the squad is devoid of someone who has come through the ranks to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Of course, there are several who have had a fleeting glimpse of the fame that accompanies being a first-team regular but nobody has actually stuck around which, considering how many times we`ve won the FA Youth Cup recently, is disappointing.

Last season Nathaniel Chalobah was regularly included in the first-team squad, he made enough appearances to qualify for a Premier League winners medal and it is hoped that Chalobah can make that step forward next season.

But with Chelsea, reputedly, chasing targets in the transfer market, it is far from certain that Chalobah will step into John Terry`s shoes.

Come the start of the 2017 / 2018 season, we fully expect Chelsea to have over 30 players out on loan again, a phenomenal amount.

Which begs me to ask the question:

Is the Academy serving the purpose it was designed for?

Many would suggest not!

Whilst there`s no doubting Chelsea have a huge amount of talented youngsters coming through the ranks, there seems a reluctance to risk using them in the first team, okay, Antonio Conte may have given Chalobah and Ake the chance to shine, but it should also be pointed out that others who have come through the youth ranks seem to be perennially on the loan circuit.

In this article, I`ve merely set the scene for you to air your views, to get another healthy debate going on what is a quiet news day.

So, what are your views, do you believe the Academy serves is purpose or are we in a situation whereby our status in the game will always see the craving to bring in expensive recruits override the necessity to rely on the youth we try to bring through the system.

Here at Vital Chelsea we`d be delighted to hear your views.
