Since the legend that is Didier Drogba decided that a return to Stamford Bridge was what he really, really wanted, there have been some spicy comments left on our site.

Whilst many of you have welcomed the return of the legend who scored 157 goals for us with 100 of them coming in the Premier League and a player who scored so many vital goals in major cup finals, there has also been a fair sprinkling of comments that have questioned why Chelsea even contemplated, let alone agreed, to bring him back.

At 36 years of age there`s no doubt that Didier`s best days are behind him and that the days of Didier grabbing the ‘Golden Boot` are long gone but there`s also the feeling that his experience, over a long season, plus his ability to grab crucial goals (as well as being an excellent defender at set-pieces), allied with his competitive nature, could be of benefit to us over the course of the season.

However, whilst Didier might be looking forward to another Premier League season, it would appear that his career as an Ivory Coast international could well be at an end. We`re hearing that the Ivory Coast Sports Minister, Alain Lobognon wants to instigate a new way forward for the Ivory Coast team, a change which would see a cull of the ageing players.

Therefore, whilst Jose Mourinho (and the board) obviously feel that Didier can offer Chelsea Football Club something, it would appear that the Ivory Coast may be adopting a completely different attitude.

As an aside, would anyone like to predict:-

1 – How many goals, in all competitions, Didier Drogba will net for Chelsea this coming season?

And

2 – How many appearances Didier Drogba will make for Chelsea Football Club, in all competitions, this coming season?

Your thoughts on the return of Didier would be greatly appreciated!
