The win, against Newcastle United, moved Chelsea three points closer to Manchester City, at the top of the table.

That is, probably, until Manchester City beat a poor West Ham United side, at the Etihad Stadium, on Sunday.

But, as we all know, football is a strange game. As good as Manchester City have looked this season, Pep Guadiola`s side will, invariably, have a bad spell which is why it is imperative Chelsea don`t give up hope.

After the win against Newcastle United, Cesc Fabregas, who gave another master-class in passing at Stamford Bridge, against Newcastle, had this to say to the Sky Sports team about keeping the pressure up on Manchester City,

‘The gap is eight points now, and there’s still a long way to go so that’s why we have to keep getting closer and closer and hope they slip up. They are there because they deserve it. Our job is to keep winning.

‘We managed to come back well and at the end it was a good win. We’ve slightly changed formation and playing with three midfielders allows me to be a little bit higher up the pitch, I can be closer to Eden.’

And being closer to Eden (and Alvaro Morata) is proving to be very productive at the moment and long may it continue.
