It is July 1st today, the start of a new month and a month when the realisation hits you that the new season is just that bit closer.
But for two of our Munich heroes, July 1st will mean something much more significant, for Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa, it means that they are now unemployed.
Now when I say unemployed I don`t for a second imagine they`ll be facing the hardships the term usually heralds. I`d guess the pair will have no fears of slipping their card into the ATM and dreading seeing a pitiful balance.
But it still heralds a new phase in their lives.
But, on reflection there cannot be a better way of leaving one employer before searching for another. After all, their last meaningful act as professionals was to help, on that glorious night in the Allianz Arena, to lift the Champions League trophy.
Many a professional will never, ever get that chance and as part of the squad that finally brought the Holy Grail back to Stamford Bridge, their names will be forever held in the highest regard.
So, as the pair wake up amongst the ranks of the unemployed, I`d like to offer my thanks and the thanks of everyone at Vital Chelsea for their service and fine contribution to the wonderful institution that is Chelsea Football Club, thanks lads for everything and may your new experiences bring you some further wonderful moments.
