After last night`s FA Cup excitement, it`s a relief to just have to scan through the array of tittle-tattle that social media and the world of clickbait have on offer. Whilst there are still no more positive signings, the rumour mill is in full flow.

Anyone watching last night`s game will be fully aware of Chelsea`s need for another striker. It`s been well documented that the name in the frame for the new striker role was Andy Carroll, here at Vital Chelsea we had our doubts over this move. Today`s it seems the move is likely to be off, as a scan has revealed a hairline fracture in Carroll`s ankle that may need surgery. That is reported in The Guardian who claim that if surgery is required, that`s the big man`s season over. It`s difficult not to feel sorry for Carroll, his career has been blighted by injury, and this could have been his one big chance.

Fear not though, as one door closes another one opens and according to those fine people at The Telegraph, generally a reliable source, Chelsea have made enquiries about the possibility of signing Stoke City`s Peter Crouch on loan until the end of the season.

Should that move fail?.please…then we go back in time to the summer. According to the news source, the Independent, Antonio Conte is set to resume the chase for a player he was linked with previously, Fernando Llorente. The 32-year-old Spaniard, chose to join Tottenham Hotspur when he left Swansea City but has seen very little first-team action. Our source is of the opinion that Conte wants to bring the player to Stamford Bridge from White Hart Lane. Will Tottenham be prepared to do business, that remains to be seen.

Without wishing to put too much credence on it, I`ve seen speculation coming out of Italy suggesting Chelsea have made enquiries to Roma regarding the ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

Whilst on the subject of Roma, we spoke, yesterday about the possibility of Chelsea making an offer for the Italian side`s left back Emerson Palmieri. Today, Calciomercato offer up an exclusive interview with Emerson`s agent Fernando Garcia. He says Chelsea have already tabled a bid for his clients services. He goes on,

`Emerson`s Chelsea move is not a done deal yet, we are in talks with the club. The two clubs are in talks and we hope to finalize the deal soon. A transfer is very likely at this stage.`

`I have not planned a trip to Italy anytime soon, we are waiting for news. Emerson would love to play in the Premier League and would love to work with Conte, he is a top manager, one of the best in the World.`

If that`s the case, I`d suggest he makes his move soon, it looks as though his time with Conte may be limited.

Returning to our one signing, Ross Barkley, and technically not gossip, but Oliver Kay of The Times has tweeted about today`s ‘behind closed doors` game arranged to judge the ex-Everton man’s fitness. It was against local rivals QPR at Cobham.

With a whole lot of nothing much going on, come the end of the window, there`s one man who can rest easy. It`s not his problem anymore. Who wishes he was back?

As we sleep on the possibility of Peter Crouch joining Chelsea, we`ll be back here tomorrow at the same time?.10pm.
